Good question But let?s start differently. What is Magnesium? It?s an alkaline earth mineral. It is the 8th most common metal in the earth?s crust. You will find approximately 2 Ozs or 59.6 mls in your body. It is located mainly in the teeth and skeleton but you will find it in the muscles, tissues and cells as well but in lower quantities. Magnesium is good because every cell needs it. Without it they would die. However, it?s the brain and the heart; the two organs producing an electrical charge which have the highest need. Magnesium is essential for brain and heart health.

The Miracle Mineral

In this drama, ?Magnesium is good for what?? there are two central characters. The hero is Magnesium and the villain is Calcium. It has always been painted the other way around. A common meme is everybody needs Calcium for bone health. This is based in the advertising slogans of the dairy industry rather than fact. In my thirty years of Kinesiological testing,I have seen very few people who are Calcium deficient. However, I have found a huge majority deficient in Magnesium. That does not make Calcium the villain but the Magnesium concentration inside the heart is 10,000 times greater than Calcium. Doesn?t that give a hint of its importance? Think of Magnesium as a Calcium controller.

It stops its antagonist from over exciting the system. Calcium livens things up making everything jittery and excitable. It blocks the parasympathetic channel of the Autonomic Nervous System. This means it promotes flight or fight and suppresses parasympathetic relaxation. Magnesium is nature?s Prozac. It calms things down. If, you are stressed take Magnesium!

. The Gel or Oil has powerful healing properties. It can be absorbed by the skin, bypassing the digestive system to yield quick results. Remember this, the heart is also a muscle. Low Magnesium levels can lead to heart disease showing up as arrhythmias and angina. Migraine headaches, asthma and menstrual cramping can also show signs of Magnesium lack.

Dosage: 325 mg for women and 420 mg for men. Any deficiency requires a higher dose at the outset to offset the prevailing lack. High blood pressure (hypertension) can sometimes be the result of Magnesium deficiency. Those on blood pressure medicines should be aware, as pressure could drop to unwanted low levels. It?s best to tell your Primary Care Physician that you intend to supplement with the amazing mineral so nobody can be taken by surprise. A daily divided dose of 1000mg is the way to go. One in the morning and the other before bed. With all natural supplements patience is a virtue. Don?t expect instant results. I suggest you follow this regimen for at least three months. The type of Magnesium you take is also important. My favourite is Magnesium Glycinate but Malate, Citrate, Carbonate and Chelate are OK.

 

You can even take it in gel or oil form. Avoid Magnesium Sulphate (Epsom Salts, a very powerful purgative) Oxide and Hydroxide are all laxatives. Magnesium in any form can loosen the bowels. In and of itself this is not a bad thing as it is a detoxifier, but you don?t? want it going on for too long. This takes into account the convenience factor but also a possibility of dehydration. !f you find supplementation causes loose stools half the dose for a couple of weeks and then try again.

Yes, Magnesium is an excellent “go to the toilet” supplement. Also, if you find your energy levels have dropped off you could discover falling Magnesium levels are the culprit. How can this be so? Well, the Miracle that is Magnesium plays a starring role in the formation of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). At the centre of every cell is an energy burning furnace and it is the ATP that lights that fire. Low Magnesium = low ATP = low fire = low energy. The low levels of Magnesium in the soil are swamped by the comparatively high levels of Potassium and drowned by the Phopsphurs. They block it. That means that our diets are deficient in Magnesium. Don’t rely on supermarket bought plant-based foods. The message is clear ?Always Buy Organic? where possible. This is not new information. It has been around for over 80 years. Senate Document 264 dated 1936 spells out the message. In a so-called democratic society the people vote for representatives to safeguard their interests. These ?politicians? forget this when they reach the seat of government be it Washington, London, Berlin or Paris. Once there they dismiss the voters who appointed them and instead become representatives of big business and commerce. The very people who did not vote for them! It seems we can no longer depend on Government to represent our interests. It is time to take responsibility for ourselves. We do that by self-education which then allows all us to make more responsible choices.

Here are some more problems caused by Magnesium lack.

 

Kidney Stones. This very painful problem occurs when Calcium binds with phosphorus and oxalic acid. This forms hardened crystalline stones that exit excruciatingly via the urethra. Stones are a signal of Magnesium lack. Solution keep up the body?s Magnesium levels.

Calcium can deposit in the bladder filling the space and lead to frequent urination. If, you are stressed take Magnesium! are ?peeing? a lot you might be Magnesium deficient.

Calcium in the blood can deposit itself along with lipids on the inner wall of arteries. This is referred to as ?hardening of the arteries? or arteriosclerosis. They would be in my top two supplement recommendations.

If, you are feeling down and depressed start taking Magnesium and see if it improves the situation. If it, doesn?t you can always return to your chemical anti-depressants. The solution to many problems is often cheaper and simpler than you think. Yes, excessive sweating also robs the body of Magnesium.
